ArthroCare Corp. has acquired a San Antonio, Texas-based medical device maker for $45 million.
Austin-based ArthroCare bought ENTrigue Surgical Inc., according to a recent filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
ENTrigue, founded in 2007, develops instruments, materials and medical devices primarily for sinus surgery.
According to ArthroCare, more than 30 million people in the United States are estimated to suffer from sinusitis, which is a condition characterized by an inflammation and infection of the nasal sinuses. Approximately 500,000 sinusitis patients are treated surgically in the United States each year. ENTrigue designs and develops innovative implants, disposables and instruments for endoscopic sinus surgery including balloon dilation and will now operate within ArthroCare’s ENT product area as a complement to the ArthroCare Coblation and Rapid Rhino product lines currently being sold.
ArthroCare, which was founded in 1993, develops surgical products for minimally invasive procedures. The company employs 1,700 workers. In May, it posted a first-quarter profit of $13.5 million on $92.3 million in revenue, versus a $12.9 million profit on $92.8 million in revenue during the same period in 2012.
