Sean Fenske: What technology or service are you emphasizing at Medica/CompaMed this year?
Anthony Feng: NuSil is celebrating 40 years of commitment to the medical device market. We leverage our experience and unwavering service to this industry to provide solutions for existing and novel therapies.
Fenske: What’s the most common challenge customers inquire about and how do you address it?
Feng: Customers seek the optimum solution for their medical device that both performs in use as well as meets the processing needs reliably. We are able to provide both off-the-shelf solutions and the ability to customize a silicone to the specific requirements needed for their device or process.
Fenske: If you could give one piece of advice to companies seeking a manufacturing partner before they make a decision, what would it be?
Feng: Involve the raw material supplier early in your process because once testing is complete, it is difficult to make adjustments. It is important to ensure the best silicone is being used for your application. When making material selection, both functionality and processing should be considered. Working closely with a supplier that can translate the performance and process needs to material specifications is essential.
Fenske: What are the forces driving medical device manufacturers to seek your technology/services over doing it in-house?
Feng: For over 40 years, we have continued to focus on the technology of high purity silicones. Our proprietary purification technology removes impurities at every step in the manufacturing process. We have established our application and processing expertise in this industry to support shorter product development cycles for our customers.
Fenske: In what ways is your company able to aid in getting a product (project) to market faster?
Feng: We pride ourselves on the level of quality and regulatory support we offer to our customers. NuSil maintains over 700 master files with the FDA in support of our medical-grade silicones. This offers our customers the ability to expedite device submissions and decrease time to market.
