To better support the practice needs of eye care professionals, Visioneering Technologies Inc. (VTI) has named Douglas P. Benoit, O.D., F.A.A.O., to the newly created position of executive director of Professional Affairs.
In his new position, Benoit will be responsible for interfacing with eye care professionals to increase awareness and use of the NaturalVue 1 Day Contact Lenses product line and its unique advanced-technology designs. He will also be working with professional organizations and educational institutions to raise awareness of VTI and its NaturalVue products.
“The appointment of Dr. Benoit comes at an important time for VTI, as we expand our sales force nationwide to better meet the needs of additional eye care professionals and patients,” said Sally Dillehay, Ed.D., O.D., M.S., chief medical officer for VTI. “He is one of the most knowledgeable and well-respected educators and practitioners in the field of contact lenses today. We look forward to having Dr. Benoit bring his vast knowledge and expertise to our growing company.”
Benoit’s leadership in the contact lens industry spans more than 30 years. For approximately 21 years, Benoit served on the executive committee for the American Academy of Optometry’s Section on Cornea, Contact Lenses, and Refractive Technologies, including chairing the Section in 2011 and 2012. He earned distinction as a Diplomate in this Section of the Academy, a title earned by less than 170 eye care professionals worldwide. He is a Distinguished Practitioner and Fellow in the National Academies of Practice-Optometry Section, and a Diplomate of the American Board of Optometry. He has conducted multiple U.S. Food and Drug Administration clinical studies, published numerous articles, and lectures frequently on contact lenses and external disease. Benoit received his doctor of Optometry degree from The New England College of Optometry in Boston, Mass.
Benoit noted that he decided to join VTI partly because of the company’s focus on patient health, as well as its innovative design for one-day multifocal lenses. “I am looking forward to contributing to the VTI team with its product line,” said Benoit. “I know how special the NaturalVue Multifocal lenses are because I have participated in research studies with the design, prescribed it to patients for over two years, and I wear it myself. It is the only daily disposable multifocal contact lens in the U.S. market today with a center distance design, which enables us to address a broad spectrum of visual needs with a full range of powers available in 0.25D steps. It’s a great lens for practitioners and patients who have tried and been disappointed by other products on the market.”
Visioneering Technologies, headquartered in Alpharetta, Ga., develops products that improve vision. With a portfolio of technologies, the company uses creative and differentiated design approaches to develop products that enhance practitioner and patient experiences. VTI optical designs have been awarded 12 patents worldwide, with an additional seven pending.
