Michael Chappell, former acting associate commissioner for Regulatory Affairs at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), has joined Washington, D.C.-based Greenleaf Health LLC as a senior advisor.
Greenleaf Health is a regulatory consulting firm that provides strategic guidance to companies regulated by the FDA .
Chappell will work with Greenleaf clients to provide strategic consulting services on regulatory, enforcement and compliance matters. Chappell joins Greenleaf following a 38-year career in FDA’s Office of Regulatory Affairs (ORA).
Prior to joining Greenleaf, Chappell served as FDA’s acting associate commissioner for Regulatory Affairs and deputy associate commissioner for Field Operations from 2007 to 2010. In this role, he was head of a 4,000-person staff spanning five regional offices that are responsible for imports, inspections and enforcement policy. Chappell started his FDA career as a consumer safety officer in Nashville.
Chappell is a graduate of the University of Alabama.
Greenleaf has hired FDA alums before. Most of the senior staff has FDA experisnce. In January 2010, former director of the FDA's Center for Devices and Radiological Health, Dan Schultz, was hired as senior vice president, Medical Devices and Combination Products.
