Tiny is still trendy. And Morgan Technical Ceramics (MTC) is embracing that trend by manufacturing micro-sized rods and tubes in high purity Alumina and Steatite at its Latrobe, Pa., facility. Recognizing an increasing demand for smaller components and intricate parts, the company expanded its capabilities at the Pennsylvania plant, acquiring a vertical hydraulic piston extruder to make miniature parts in various sizes and tolerances. Extruded rods range in size from 0.6 millimeters to 10 millimeters in diameter and up to 450 millimeters in length, enabling the firm to create parts that are considerably longer than those made through a pressing process. The rods are available as solid components, single-hole or multi-hole geometry parts and can be manufactured in high volume, according to the firm. Rods and tubes extruded from 96 percent to 99.8 percent pure Alumina provide ideal insulating properties for use in extreme temperatures and corrosive environments. Morgan Technical Ceramics is a business of the Morgan Ceramics Division of United Kingdom-based Morgan Crucible Company plc.
