For anyone who couldn’t make it to Germany this year, these images will have you smelling the sausages and feeling the autumn temps of Messe Düsseldorf.
The world's leading medical trade fair MEDICA takes place annually in mid-November in the Düsseldorf exhibition halls—supplemented by many digital services. The focus is on exhibitor innovations in laboratory technology and diagnostics, medical technology equipment for intensive care medicine, robot applications, and many software and hardware applications for the digitalization of healthcare. The supporting program of accompanying specialist forums and conferences focuses on important trend topics such as the increasing "outpatientization" of treatment processes and applications based on artificial intelligence. The annual medtech gathering has seen the crowds return to pre-pandemic levels at this year’s Medica/CompaMed shows. Do the halls look as full to you as they had been before COVID? Image courtesy of Messe Düsseldorf, Constanze Tillmann.
The new special show at MEDICA, the HOSPITAL OF THE FUTURE, invites industry experts and hospital decision-makers to discover the hospital of tomorrow. In Hall 12, Stand E74, various industry partners will be presenting their use cases in three rooms. They include RZV Rechenzentrum Volmarstein GmbH, CGM Compugroup, Vital Services, Medisanté, connectMT (formerly Westdeutscher Radiologieverbund), and Clinomic. Visitors will be guided through the HOSPITAL OF THE FUTURE in tours offered exclusively for hospital decision-makers and other industry experts. According to the CUREosity website, the VR therapy system CUREO uses the potential of VR technology and opens up a new kind of therapy to patients. Virtual reality is finding a number of application areas within healthcare, from device design and development to physical therapy to treatment of mental conditions such as PTSD. Disney’s Epcot has the World Showcase; Medica has halls dedicated to regions, states, and countries where they are able to set-up pavilions featuring companies from the area that showcase the products, technologies, and services they offer. Wearable technologies have long been considered established in the health sector, are still in high demand, and this product area is likely to be characterized by further market growth in the future. There are many reasons for this: wearables are becoming more and more powerful and are demonstrably improving the diagnosis and therapy of a variety of diseases. The spectrum of exciting applications ranges from continuous cardiovascular tracking to smart devices for use in wound care to novel battery technologies. A selection of innovations will be presented at the large joint stand of the Wearable Technologies Show. Image courtesy of Messe Düsseldorf, Constanze Tillmann.
As the leading international medical trade fair, MEDICA has also been the No. 1 event for the global health start-up scene for years. Of the more than 5,200 exhibiting companies at MEDICA (and the parallel supplier trade fair COMPAMED), several hundred are part of the start-up scene. As a central meeting point, the MEDICA START-UP PARK is enjoying ever-increasing popularity: in its special area, start-ups in search of partnerships come together with the decision-making level of companies from the venture capital and industry sectors. Around 50 participating start-ups showcase a wealth of innovations. The spectrum ranges from mobile health apps and applications based on artificial intelligence (AI) to the topic of medical robotics. Image courtesy of Messe Düsseldorf, Constanze Tillmann.
Cosmetics, watches, fashion, electronic devices—there’s hardly a product that is not subject to forgery. Dangers arise if consumers take counterfeit medication, the sales of which are booming in online retail. These illegal medicinal drugs pose an incalculable health hazard. In the future, a smartphone will be able to check the genuine identity of a medicinal drug or medical device with the help of a forgery-proof bar code system. Authentication is possible without accessing a database. During MEDICA 2023, researchers from Fraunhofer will present “SmartID Demonstrator” at the joint Fraunhofer booth in Hall 3.
