PharmaMedDevice will be held April 24-27 in New York City. |
The new conference and exhibition is an offshoot of Interphex, one of the largest manufacturing events for the pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical industries.
PharmaMedDevice will highlight the innovations taking place in drug-delivery technology and healthcare at a time when many experts believe convergent technology will play an extremely large part of the future of medicine.
The start of PharmaMedDevice seems to be perfect timing, as the combination product market was valued at $6 million in 2004 and is expected to grow upward of 14% annually through 2010.
According to a survey last year, more than 20% of the Interphex exhibition attendees were involved in combination product development and an additional 25% were looking to be involved in that arena in the future. Examples of combination products include insulin pumps, drug-eluting stents and inhalers.
The conference portion of PharmaMedDevice has various sessions spread across the three days to highlight the emerging market. Topics to be featured include “Changing Directions: Why Devices Alone Won't Work” and “Reimbursement for Combination Products” on April 24; the next day will present sessions such as “Anticipated Future Challenges: Where We’ve Been and Where We’re Going” and “The Future of Device Biologics”; and the last day will present “Success Story of Combination Product Premarket Approval.”
Complementing the strong array of topics, PharmaMedDevice will feature speakers including Rob Albert, vice president, duplex business unit of B. Braun; Susan Alpert, vice president of regulatory affairs for Medtronic; and Michael Drues, president of Vascular Sciences.
“PharmaMedDevice’s conference programs enable medical device, biotech and drug companies to uncover collaborative opportunities for all three industries, while learning from the combination product industry’s leading experts,” said Christine Ford, event director of PharmaMedDevice. “For most companies, bringing a successful combination product to market requires the right partner, technology and strategy for commercialization through a certain synergy that can be found at PharmaMedDevice.”
Various industry publications are sponsors of the show, including Medical Product Outsourcing and Orthopedic Design & Technology.
