MRPC recently completed a cleanroom expansion project at its Butler, Wis., headquarters that expands the firm's overall cleanroom footprint.
The eight-month project repurposed existing space within one of MRPC's manufacturing buildings into a state-of-the-art cleanroom. Repurposing the space enabled MRPC to add cleanroom capacity for growth opportunities at Wisconsin location.
The bigger cleanroom now houses various new equipment, including vertical molding machines to process high consistency silicone rubber (HCR), automated thermoplastic injection molding machines to handle secondary processes, and automation with vision systems machines, which check for critical and quality part features. The automation is designed to divert suspect conditions from the production stream. Automation, which has become a need for the medical device industry, was a priority for this cleanroom because of its value to the MRPC team and the company's customers.
“Automation, to include real-time process monitoring, was a focus of this cleanroom expansion project,” MRPC Chief Operating Officer Carl Lider said. “Automation enables us to redeploy the MRPC talent to perform more value-added work instead of the repetitive tasks that automation can handle, and it enables us to standardize repeatable processes and offer customers more competitive solutions.
The new cleanroom created space for device assembly, packaging and other finished medical device assembly processes. This space was important to the overall project, as it has become a growing need among customers, and aligns with one of MRPC’s core competencies—finished medical device assembly.
“This cleanroom expansion project is an investment in our team, and in our customers. The new technology supports success on the project side, and on the customer side, because it creates efficiencies while enhancing product quality," Lider stated. “The completion of this cleanroom further demonstrates our focus on medical device manufacturing and our commitment to growing and expanding to meet current and prospective customer needs.”
As a result of this expansion project, MRPC has grown its overall cleanroom footprint, increased capacity, and is poised for growth. MRPC intends to employ additional automation at its headquarters.
MRPC is a U.S. Food and Drug Administration-registered, ISO 13485-certified full contract manufacturer of medical devices, instruments, and disposables. With full range product lifecycle capabilities including design assistance, development, and manufacturing, MRPC is a turn-key manufacturing partner to some of the world’s largest medical device companies. Additionally, with thermoplastic, LSR, and rubber molding capabilities, clean room assembly and packaging, sterilization management and supply chain development, MRPC provides various capabilities and flexibility for medtech customers.
