Pentax Medical, a division of Hoya Group, has earned U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) 510(k) clearance for its INSPIRA 4K video processor and i20c video endoscope series.
The new INSPIRA 4K video processor upgrades Pentax endoscope models to the latest imaging. It’s controlled using a customizable touch panel and is equipped with image enhancement functions and 4K image processing. Two connection types lets the range of Pentax’s endoscopy portfolio be used.
INSPIRA also includes i-SCAN post-processing image enhancement and enhanced view of the mucosal surface and blood vessels. According to the company, a recent study showed 10% point increase in adenoma detection rate using i-SCAN over use if high-definition white light alone.
The i20c endoscopes were engineered to fit comfortably in the endoscopist’s grip with improvements to weight, button positioning, and access to angulation wheels. The endoscopes use Pentax’s insertion tube tech with a new adjustable stiffener. The standard i20c colonoscope also includes a 210° Retroview function.
David Harrison, President of PENTAX Medical Americas, told the press, "The PENTAX Medical INSPIRA video processor and i20c Endoscopes are a milestone for endoscopy in the United States. This platform not only addresses current ergonomic needs but sets future standards in the endoscopy workflow that will ultimately strengthen the provider and patient experience. Together, the system empowers endoscopists with the economic flexibility, a 4K imaging option, and maneuverability tools they need to improve patient care."
Pentax expects to launch the 4K video processor and i20c endoscope series in October.
