GE Healthcare's product showcase at the Radiological Society of North America's (RSNA) annual meeting and COVID-19's latest curveball attracted the most readers this past week.
Eager to exhibit its newest innovations in radiology, GE Healthcare touted nearly 60 new products at RSNA 2021 in Chicago (Nov. 28-Dec. 2). Among the technologies presented at the show was the SIGNA Hero 3T MRI, a magnetic resonance imaging system named in honor of all healthcare workers who have cared for patients during the pandemic. The company designed SIGNA Hero to accommodate more patients of all shapes and sizes; the system features a 70 cm bore and detachable table for enhanced patient comfort. GE Healthcare also gave conference attendees a glimpse of numerous new AI-powered, automated and data-driven solutions, including portable X-ray technology, a wireless and pocket-sized ultrasound device, cloud-based imaging, automated syringeless innovations, and improved magnetic resonance systems.
Meanwhile, diagnostic developers were quick to reassure the public this week about the efficacy of their COVID-19 tests to detect the Omicron variant, initially identified in South Africa early last month. Preliminary data suggest the latest mutation carries an increased transmission risk, though scientists are still analyzing the potential ramifications of Omicron. Companies like Abbott Laboratories, BD, Hologic, and others have confirmed their diagnostic tests are still effective.
