The auto-stereoscopic system’s technology enables switching between 3-D and two-dimensional modes without losing resolution and features the ability to view both content modes simultaneously.
Furthermore, it requires no special eyewear and allows for 40-degree viewing angles with 90 concurrent perspectives, and contains motion parallax which eliminates the sense of imbalance and dizziness that plague similar systems, the Canadian company said.
The preserves the base resolution in each perspective regardless of the number of views.
Zecotek has received patents for its 3D display system in the U.S., China, Europe, Asia Eurasia, Russia and Australia and has patents pending in Japan, South Korea and India.
“This U.S. patent marks another important step in our continued efforts to provide the best-in-class glasses-free 3-D displays and monitors,” said A.F. Zerrouk, Ph.D., chairman/president/CEO of Zecotek Photonics. “The patent covers the improvements to our switchable 3-D/2-D display technology which meet the practical needs of OEMs and end users. Our 3-D display technology allows for switching between 3-D and 2-D modes without loss of resolution, and displaying 3-D and 2-D content simultaneously. The patent also covers technology which broadens the capabilities of specialized 3-D display applications such as fundamental research and medical imaging. We are working closely with OEMs within well-defined markets and will continue to maintain an IP development program in parallel with our efforts to meet market requirements.”
The 3D/2D switchable optical imaging system further improves the core capabilities of the 3-D display technology by introducing a software-selectable full-resolution two-dimensional mode with viewing angles and dynamic range/colour depth on par with conventional two-dimensional displays.
