Medical research organization NAMSA has completed an expansion of its laboratories in Lyon, France. The expansion was a response to an increased demand for NAMSA’s biocompatibility and histopathology services (the microscopic examination of tissue in order to study the manifestation of disease). The laboratories are now roughly 12,000 square feet, about double their previous size.
The new laboratory space will open mid-December.
“We are growing quickly to support the needs of our customers,” said Jean Pierre Boutrand, D.V.M., general manager of NAMSA in Lyon. “This expansion will allow us to add staff and help meet increased demand for efficient testing and reporting during the medical device development and testing process.”
NAMSA employs a number of board-certified pathologists globally, and through them offers clients collection and processing of tissue samples, custom sample preparation and sectioning, specialized tissue-implant processing, and other services.
“The medical device research, regulatory approval and commercialization process is continuously taking longer and costing more, driving the need for efficiencies wherever possible and we are very focused on that,” said Boutrand.
NAMSA has been growing in recent years. In July, the organization purchased the Integra Group, a preclinical and clinical research company. It also rebranded its business unit in France formerly known as Biomatach, which now operates under the NAMSA name. In early 2012, NAMSA opened an office in Frankfurt, Germany, and also began offering a brand new service, inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry. The company hopes to become well positioned as a fully integrated provider for medical device manufacturers, with broad capabilities in consulting, non-clinical, and clinical services.
NAMSA has expertise in cardiovascular, orthopedic, ocular, neurologic, gastroenterologic, urologic, combination product, and related medical devices. The organization aims to help manufacturers accelerate the process of bringing their devices to market.
NAMSA is a global contract research organization that provides regulatory, clinical, and compliance services to medical device and healthcare product manufacturers.
