CareFusion COO Leaves the Company

CareFusion Corp. has announced that Dwight Winstead, chief operating officer, will leave the company effective June 30. Winstead has served as COO since CareFusion’s separation from Cardinal Health Corp. in 2009. He joined Cardinal Health in 1997 when it acquired Owen Healthcare, where he served as president. Since then, Winstead held a variety of positions within Cardinal Health, including president of the Clinical Technologies and Services business, and group president for the Automation and Information Services segment.

“Dwight and I agreed the timing was right to streamline the organization,” Chairman and CEO Kieran Gallahue said in a prepared statement. “He has been a foundational leader at CareFusion and he leaves a legacy of strong operators and industry-leading businesses.”

Winstead currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Advanced Medical Technology Association. CareFusion has not yet named a replacement, and call to clarify his reason for leaving were not returned.

“After 40 years in healthcare and perhaps the most important two years of my career since the spinoff from Cardinal Health, I look forward to pursuing other passions,” Winstead said in a prepared statement. “CareFusion is in a great position with an operations-oriented CEO in Kieran and strong leaders managing our core businesses.”

CareFusion is based in San Diego, Calif.
