Surgical robotics firm Memic Innovative Surgery has rebranded to become Momentis Surgical, and changed its technology’s name from the Hominis surgical system to the Anovo surgical system.
The news came at last week’s Society of Robotic and Digital Surgery (SRS) 2022 annual meeting.
"We are pleased to announce our new identity as Momentis Surgical. As an innovative and visionary technology company, we want to ensure that our brand aligns with our vision and core values and reflects our expanded corporate mission to transform the field of robotic surgery in a range of indications using next-generation surgical robots that provide a human touch, mirroring the movements of the human body to enable surgeons to perform procedures previously unimaginable," Dvir Cohen, CEO of Momentis told the press. "We believe the name Momentis captures not only where we find ourselves as a company today, but it reflects our inspiration for future growth as an organization."
The company also presented clinical data at SRS 2022 in seven presentations. Gynecological surgeon Dr. Ricardo E. Estape, who last month became the first U.S. surgeon to perform a robotic-assisted transvaginal hysterectomy using Anovo, discussed his clinical experience. He has performed six procedures to date, all with good results and patients were discharged from the hospital the same day after surgery.
Anovo is indicated for robotic-assisted transvaginal benign surgical procedures including benign hysterectomy, salpingectomy, oophorectomy, adnexectomy, and ovarian cyst removal.
