ResMed launched its AirCurve 11 series, the company’s newest bilevel devices that use two levels of support, inspiratory positive airway pressure (IPAP) and expiratory positive airway pressure (EPAP).
The AirCurve 11 series is combined with digital tech to help treat sleep apnea.
The AirCurve 11 VAuto is a bilevel PAP that provides higher pressure during inhalation and lower pressure during exhalation. The company said the design lets the device align more closely with natural breathing patterns.
The AirCurve 11 ASV is an adaptive servo-ventilation (ASV) device that makes therapy feel like the patient’s own breath. Its algorithm tracks 13 points on every breath cycle 50 times per second, using a unique minute ventilation target and respiratory rate to deliver therapy that stabilizes ventilation. Continuously monitoring breath shape informs the algorithm when trigger and cycle are happening, as well as length of inspiration.
The series of devices features cellular and Bluetooth communication, as well as a heated humidifier that can be controlled via a Climate Control feature or manually set. Over-the-Air updates deliver software and new digital features to the device.
The myAir app tracks sleep and therapy progress with a daily sleep score, now with support for patients using bilevel therapy. The AirView cloud-based system lets providers monitor and manage therapy remotely, and a Personal Therapy Assistant offers interactive, voice-guided instructions and videos.
Care Check-In periodically prompts patients with questions about their bilevel therapy goals, as well.
“Patient care is our top priority, and that includes their comfort and compliance with PAP therapy,” said ResMed chief medical officer Carlos M. Nunez, MD. “We’ve seen patient compliance improve from 70% to 87% through the use of coaching features and the ability to track and view their nightly sleep data via MyAir and AirView, so we’ve incorporated these digital health applications into the new AirCurve11 series to enable maximum comfort and support throughout the therapy experience.”
“Our approach to product development is predicated on always doing what is in the best interest of patients,” added ResMed chief product officer Justin Leong. "This culture of customer-centricity fuels our passion for delivering products like the AirCurve 11 that empower people with the ability to better care for their sleep apnea from the comfort of their own homes.”
