Boston Scientific began limited market release for its VersaVue single-use flexible cystoscope, expanding its offerings to help diagnose and treat urinary tract conditions.
VersaVue earned U.S. Food and Administration (FDA) 510(k) clearance in October 2023. It provides visualization of bladder and urethra lining which displaying images to perform various procedures.
The company said using VersaVue can help remove time related to reusable scope processing, repair, and maintenance. The sterile-as-packaged cystoscope can help to eliminate infection risk due to cross-contamination and reduce wait times associated with lack of available reusable scopes, Boston Scientific also said.
VersaVue features a 14-inch tablet to display high-resolution images and video, without needing further equipment to view the live image.
“By utilizing a new cystoscope for every procedure, the VersaVue Single-Use Flexible Cystoscope can help reduce post-procedure infections like urinary tracts infections (UTIs) that can be associated with improper reprocessing of reusable scopes,” Ron Morton, MD, chief medical officer, Urology, Boston Scientific told the press. “The addition of the VersaVue Single-Use Flexible Cystoscope helps round out the comprehensive suite of urologic solutions we’re able to offer to our customers and their patients.”
Earlier this month, Boston Scientific began a $3.7 billion deal to acquire Axonics, a maker of devices to treat urinary and bowel dysfunction.
