Zimmer Approved on Trilogy Ceramic Hip Device

Zimmer Holdings announced that it has been approved for US sales of its Trilogy ceramic hip replacement device.
The company said it received an approvable letter from the FDA in November for the Trilogy AB Ceramic-on-Ceramic Acetabular System, noting the device’s marketing was conditional on FDA inspection of Zimmer’s manufacturing facility. Warsaw, IN-based Zimmer said it plans to launch the new system in the next two weeks.
“We are very pleased to now be able to offer a ceramic-on-ceramic acetabular option to our customers in the United States,” said Ray Elliott, Zimmer Holdings’ chairman, president and CEO.
Zimmer said it last month launched a similar product line, the Durom and Metasul devices, designed for joint replacement.
