VitalPath has expanded its Maplewood, Minn., facility, in an attempt to make it a central hub for catheter innovation, development, and manufacturing.

The expanded facility brings together executive leadership, catheter new product development (NPD), new product introduction (NPI), sustaining engineering, and manufacturing teams in a single location. Intended to support seamless collaboration across the product lifecycle, the site enables faster communication, more efficient decision-making, and closer alignment between development and manufacturing teams.

“By bringing our catheter NPD and NPI teams together in one location, we are creating a more connected environment for innovation, collaboration, and execution across our customers’ complex catheter programs,” VitalPath CEO Bill Ellerkamp stated. “Our customers value the responsiveness, technical expertise, and collaborative partnerships they experience when working with our teams. This expansion further strengthens our ability to deliver those benefits while helping customers move their programs forward more effectively and efficiently.”

The facility features a dedicated NPD laboratory, providing space for product development activities, prototyping, and customer collaboration. As a destination frequently visited by customers, the Maplewood facility further strengthens its role as a center for engineer-to-engineer engagement, technical problem-solving, and strategic partnerships.

Beyond the physical expansion and to further support program execution and cross-functional alignment, VitalPath has also implemented its VEGA Phase-Gate Process, a structured framework designed to guide complex catheter programs from development through commercialization to enhance visibility, accountability, and collaboration across teams.

Complementing the Maplewood collaboration hub is VitalPath’s extrusion and braiding center of excellence, co-located in Maplewood and VitalPath’s Cokato, Minn., site, which also provides expertise in precision laser components, laser processing, and catheter assembly. Together, these facilities offer a vertically integrated ecosystem that supports customers from concept and development through commercialization and production scale-up.

By combining advanced catheter engineering and manufacturing capabilities in Maplewood with specialized extrusion, braiding and laser processing expertise, VitalPath executives say the company is providing customers with a streamlined path to market, enhanced technical collaboration, and the responsiveness needed to support the most complex catheter programs.

VitalPath delivers high-quality complex catheter solutions through customer relationships, innovative engineering, and operational excellence. The VitalPath team specializes in meeting customers’ most challenging complex catheter design and manufacturing requirements, built on a suite of precision component manufacturing capabilities. The company is ISO 13485:2016 certified with a U.S. Food and Drug Administration-registered site, including ISO 7 & 8 cleanrooms.
