Vincent Medical Expands in China

The plastics manufacturer protects itself from uncertain global economic landscapes and turns to local markets.

Vincent Medical Mfg Co. Ltd., a Hong Kong-based plastics processor, is building a new factory this year in China in order to target the growing mainland China medical market. According to Plastics News, the company is hedging against uncertainty in its traditional export business.

The 125,000-square-foot facility in Dongguan will house manufacturing, conference rooms, a “modern” training facility, administration, executive, and operations offices. There will also be 75,000 square feet of clean room and environmentally controlled production space. The facility is scheduled for move-in in June, and according to tradition among the Chinese business community, there will be a grand opening ceremony in early July.

Though export business is steady overall, economic uncertainty in the United States and Europe are making it difficult for companies like Vincent Medical to continue to depend on those markets entirely. So, focusing on local healthcare markets seems to be the answer.

“We see the fluctuation, so that is why we are focused more on the domestic Chinese market,” said marketing manager Calvin Koh at the Hong Kong International Medical Devices and Supplies Fair, held May 7-9.

As well as focusing inward, the company has been marketing its own branded items such as its VHC20 disposable auto-feed humidification chamber and its VHB15 respiratory humidifier for the Chinese market. Increasingly, China is a growing consumer market as much as it is a production market.
