USA, Canada, and EU Give OK to Catheter Sheath

The sheath is designed to make almost any catheter steerable.

Oscor Inc. has received clearance from U.S. Food and Drug Administration and Health Canada as well as CE Mark approval in Europe for its next generation steerable guiding sheath, the Destino. The Oscor Destino, according to the company, features 180-degree bidirectional steering and is available in several curves (small, medium and large) and sheath length combinations (from 45 to 90 centimeters). Other features include a next-generation hemostatic valve with a side port and an ergonomically designed soft grip handle that provides more precise steering control. The Destino sheath is approved for use in procedures that involve the delivery of catheters and other therapeutic devices into the cardiovascular system, including transseptal access.

The sheath is available in sizes ranging from 8.5F to 12F shaft inner diameter. Therefore, according to Oscor, the sheath can fit most catheter sizes to make most any catheter steerable.

Oscor develops medical technology and services in four key areas: cardiac rhythm management, atrial fibrillation, cardiology and radiology. The company is headquartered in Palm Harbor, Fla.
