Syneron Countersues Thermage for Infringement

Yokneam, Israel-based Syneron Medical has filed a patent infringement counterclaim against Hayward, CA-based Thermage.

The claim alleged that the technology behind Thermage’s ThermaCool infringed on a patent owned by Syneron, a maker of aesthetic devices. ThermaCool is a non-invasive cosmetic system that uses radiofrequency to stimulate collagen.

The countersuit was filed in federal court in the northern district of California, the same mplace where Thermage filed its infringement suits last year.

Thermage, also an aesthetic device maker, filed five claims of infringement last year against Syneron. Thermage alleged that Syneron infringed on its patents of methods and devices for tightening skin and achieving other beneficial improvements in skin and tissue structure.
