Two days after spinal device maker Synthes Inc. reached an agreement with the New Jersey attorney general over compensation of physicians participating in clinical trials, competitor Stryker Corp., based in Kalamazoo, Mich., has received a subpoena from New Jersey regarding similar allegations.

According to a filing by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, the subpoena from the office of Anne Milgram calls for “various documents related to the financial interests and arrangements of physicians participating in certain clinical trials for or on behalf of the company.”

The SEC filing also showed Stryker had received a warning letter from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration related to facial-implant products it previously sold through its Portage, Mich., distribution facility. The device maker is in the process of responding to the FDA’s letter, according to the SEC filing.
