Steady Growth Ahead for Japanese Hearing Implants Market

Country's aging population and insurance coverage for hearing implants will drive the expansion.

Japan’s hearing implant market is set to grow 4 percent annually this decade.

The estimate from Globaldata is based on several factors, including the country’s aging population, increased hearing loss in children (younger than 18), and insurance coverage for hearing implants. Japan is the second-largest market in Asia-Pacific for hearing implant devices. 
 
GlobalData’s report, “Hearing Implants (ENT Devices) – Global Market Analysis and Forecast Model (COVID-19 Market Impact),” reveals that Cochlear Ltd., MED-EL and Oticon Medical were the leading players in Japan, together accounting for more than 75 percent of the overall hearing implants market in 2021.
 
“Japan, despite its declining population, has increasing number of patients suffering from hearing loss and a high proportion of these patients require treatment via surgery as compared to other countries in the APAC region. In 2021, the cochlear implants segment contributed to more than 50% of the overall hearing implants market in Japan. This is because majority of hearing loss cases are associated with issues in inner ear which are treated using cochlear implants,” said Vinita Sippy, a medical devices analyst at GlobalData,
