Solventum has launched its V.A.C. peel and place dressing, an integrated dressing and drape that can be applied in under two minutes and worn for up to seven days.

Typical dressings for negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) can take over twice as long to apply, the company cited. They also require a multi-step process to measure and cut separate foam and adhesive components. They may also need to be changed three or more times a week.

Solventum said its all-in-one dressing and drape design simplifies application and lowers the time and training needed for dressing application and changes. It also touts a perforated, non-adherent layer to reduce tissue ingrowth, making removal of the dressing less painful.

The V.A.C. peel and place dressing is indicated for wounds as deep as 6 cm including chronic, acute, traumatic, subacute, and dehisced wounds, as well as partial thickness burns, ulcers (such as diabetic, pressure or venous insufficiency), flaps, and grafts.

The dressing was demonstrated to reduce therapy application time by 61%, according to Solventum. It can also lower costs by 41% at the hospital bedside because of less frequent dressing changes and reduce the number of home nursing visits by 67% per week.

“Solventum is committed to overcoming clinical challenges and improving access to care so that more patients may benefit from V.A.C. Therapy, one of the most studied and effective advanced wound treatments available today,” said Chris Barry, executive VP and group president, Medical Surgical, Solventum. “We are proud to be a pioneering leader in wound care, and we will continue our legacy of innovation by empowering and equipping healthcare providers with the tools they need to deliver better, smarter, and safer treatments to their patients.”
