Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics plans to create more than 80 jobs over the next year as part of its previously announced deal for a new warehouse and distribution facility in Plainfield, IN.

Siemens, a 160-year-old company founded and headquartered in Germany, makes an array of products, including wind turbines that make electricity, and medical test strips used by diabetics to check blood sugar.

Siemens is planning to consolidate its distribution operations from other states into about 300,000 square feet of space in Indiana.

Siemens is taking up about 65% of the 493,000-square-foot building constructed last year by Republic Properties at 2150 Stanley Road in Indianapolis, IN.

The building’s shell is already up and construction continues.

Siemens’ Illinois-based Healthcare Diagnostics division already employs about 60 in the Indianapolis area and plans to begin hiring warehouse associates, maintenance staff and office associates to accommodate the opening of the facility.

“We are confident Indianapolis is an excellent location for us to expand our distribution operations,” said Donal Quinn, chief executive officer, Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics, in a prepared statement. “It is an ideal location … “

The Indiana Economic Development Corp., which made today’s jobs announcement, offered Siemens Healthcare up to $535,000 in performance-based tax credits and up to $67,500 in training grants based on the company’s job creation plans. Plainfield will consider a property tax abatement.
