Sentio Opens New R&D Facility

Sentio LLC has opened a new research and development center in Southfield, Mich. The new facility is part of the company’s effort to expand its pool of engineering talent as well as enhance Southeast Michigan’s R&D capabilities for the medical device market.

The new R&D center in will focus on new technologies for intra-operative nerve monitoring (IONM). The first phase will include electronic and software laboratories. Phase two of the expansion will add hardware prototyping capabilities and is expected to be up and running by the end of the year.

This will speed the pace at which our partners bring a greater breadth and depth to the rapidly growing IONM market,” said Chris Wybo, chief operating officer for Sentio. “The creation of this new R&D center in Southfield greatly contributes to Sentio’s innovation ability.

In June this year, Sentio launched its first platform, SentioMMG, a nerve-mapping tool that allows surgeons to locate and identify nerves during surgery with the goal of making minimally invasive surgery much safer. 

“It is the first smart sensor to be used for nerve monitoring in surgery and initial sales have been targeted at the lucrative and rapidly growing minimally invasive spine surgery market,” Bartol said. 

Headquartered in Southfield, Mich., Sentio  is a privately held company.
