DG Medical recently hosted U.S. Labor Secretary Hilda Solis and Jill Biden, Ph.D., wife of Vice President Joe Biden, to highlight the role of community colleges in meeting the workforce development needs in today’s high tech industries. BioOhio, a nonprofit organization working to develop the bioscience industry in Ohio, and Sinclair Community College also were on hand for the day. BioOhio has been a key player in helping to build a bridge between industry and education through its workforce development endeavors.

As a contract manufacturer for the medical device sector, DG Medical requires a workforce that is competently trained for operating in a tightly regulated industry. To achieve the necessary skilled workforce, the company is using the Bioscience Manufacturing Technology Certification Program offered by Sinclair Community College in Dayton, Ohio. The program is designed to give workers the knowledge and skills needed to excel within the bioscience industry. To date, seven DG Medical employees have received their certification from the program and are putting their new skills to use in the company’s ISO 7 clean-room facility.

“As a company, we have been very pleased with the partnerships that we have developed with BioOhio and our local community college,” DGMedical President and CEO Mike Sieron said. “At DG Medical, we understand the necessity of having a staff that is fully trained for the bioscience industry. The workforce development partnerships established between industry and education have been an avenue for us to develop a highly trained team of employees that know how to make a perfect part every time…which in the end is the most important outcome for our customers.”

During the Feb. 22 visit, Solis and Biden toured the DG Medical facility to see first hand the company’s capabilities in producing high-tech medical devices. Employees who benefited from the training they received from Sinclair explained to Solis and Biden how the training helped improve their career paths in the bioscience industry.

Headquartered in Centerville, Ohio, DG Medical is a contract manufacturer of medical devices, offering precision plastic molding, engineering and design services, prototyping, clean room manufacturing, and assembly and packaging. The company is a business unit of DimcoGray Corporation.
