Scandius BioMedical to Market TriTis Tibial Fixation System

LITTLETON, Mass., Feb. 9 (UPI) — Scandius BioMedical said Thursday it has been approved to market the TriTis Tibial Fixation System for soft-tissue rebuilding. The company said its system has been used successfully to reconstruct the leg’s anterior cruciate ligament, which it said is the most common sports-related orthopedic joint injury. Scandius’s technology combines a cleat for tissue compression in the tunnel, a fixation screw to anchor the device and a fixation washer to prevent graft slippage. The system is specifically designed for procedures involving the tibia, where bone quality is softer, making it harder to hold a soft-tissue graft in place. “Current tibial fixation products often force surgeons to make a choice between intra-tunnel compression to achieve aperture fixation or cortical fixation to achieve strength,” said Mark Johanson, president and chief executive officer of Scandius. “We believe that TriTis will offer both, providing surgeons with the optimal clinical outcome they desire.”
