Saint-Gobain Adds Clean Room to New Jersey Facility

The room provides various capabilities, including fluoropolymer extrusion.

Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics Healthcare Group has added an ISO Class 7 clean room to its facility in Mickleton, N.J. The addition expands the company’s fluoropolymer extrusion capabilities for medical and biopharmaceutical customers.

The new clean room features closed loop extrusion lines and state-of-the-art X-ray measurement and inspection systems designed to meet the needs of medical customers seeking increasingly smaller and more complex fluoropolymer and engineered plastic extrusions and assemblies.

“Saint-Gobain’s investment in the Mickleton facility was fueled by growing demand from our customers and represents the company’s commitment to meeting their critical needs,” said Craig Maki, Saint-Gobain manager of fluoropolymers. “The expansion at Mickleton complements our current fluoropolymer capabilities in Neuss, Germany, strengthening our global offering of fluoropolymer solutions for medical device OEMs [original equipment manufacturers].”

The Mickleton site is ISO 9001 and 14001 certified, and extrudes a wide range of fluoropolymer materials in addition to other engineered thermoplastics. Saint-Gobain’s capabilities include small diameter tubing, tapered tubing, single and multi-lumen PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) tubing, FEP (fluorinated ethylene propylene) and PTFE heat shrink tubing, and ring marking.

Saint-Gobain provides silicone, thermoplastic elastomer and fluoropolymer extrusion; silicone and two-shot silicone-thermoplastic molding; rapid prototyping, tooling design and build; and custom material development.
