RightEye Releases Quick Eye Test for Assessing Concussions

Bethesda, Md.-based RightEye LLC, a health technology company using eye tracking to create new technology for vision performance and patient care, has released the RightEye Neuro Vision—a new 15-second concussion test that helps health care providers more clearly understand the severity of a patient’s head trauma and better assess their recovery over time.

“It’s common for concussion patients to be in denial about their condition,” said Deann Fitzgerald, O.D., a neuro optometrist who works with amateur and professional athletes of all ages and levels. “By now having this kind of report, based on specific eye-tracking data, we can literally show patients the hard evidence that they have a serious condition and more people will be able to get the treatment they need.”

RightEye Neuro Vision is an eye-tracked, digital eye test based on the smooth pursuit protocol, which is a leading manual concussion test used across the country by physicians to determine if a person’s eyes are able to closely follow a moving object. RightEye has taken this subjective manual examination that requires observation of the patient’s eyes and has created a 15-second test that is objective, repeatable and comparable over time, and lets health care providers discover more about an individual’s health, the company reports.

Using RightEye Neuro Vision is designed to be simple and easy. The patient, while sitting in front of a computer that has a small eye tracking bar attached at the bottom of the screen, simply watches a circular digital animation for 15 seconds. Immediately following the test, the system automatically emails a report to the health care provider and patient that shows the eye-tracked digitization of the results and associated metrics.
