Resonetics Adds Process Development Center of Excellence

Resonetics has added a second Lightspeed ADL Application Development Lab in its Dayton, OH facility to complement the existing lab in Boston. This new 1,100 sq. ft. Lightspeed ADL operation is staffed with 11 engineers and technicians, and has dedicated systems for laser ablation, cutting and welding. The Dayton site will focus on metal applications, while the Boston lab will continue to emphasize polymer and glass applications.
 
“Collaborating with customers on new product development is not new for the Dayton team, but the dedicated resources are. This will increase our scale and velocity in order to meet aggressive project timelines and reduce our customers’ time to market,” explained Tom Burns, Resonetics CEO.
 
The two Lightspeed ADL operations offer a vast array of dedicated laser technology and experienced scientists and engineers to solve manufacturing challenges efficiently, allowing customers to quickly advance to commercialization. The teams are experienced with feasibility studies, iterative prototyping, design verification, process validations and pilot production. “The Lightspeed ADL team is built on a foundation of innovation, flexibility and speed, while also recognizing the importance of reliability and achieving cost objectives,” stated Kevin Hartke, Chief Technology Officer. “We’re passionate about collaborating with customers and helping them succeed.” This year, Resonetics has added five new laser systems to the Lightspeed ADL labs—two femtosecond cutting systems, one zero kerf femtosecond system for glass ablation, and one laser welding system. With the additional femtosecond systems, Resonetics will now have 17 ultrafast laser systems for development and production making it the leading contract manufacturer in ultrafast laser processing.
