NuSil Adds New Elastomer to its Stable of Products

It is well-suited for electronic medical devices, according to the company.

NuSil Technology LLC, a manufacturer of silicone compounds for the healthcare and pharmaceutical industries, has added a new elastomer to its product lineup.

The new compound, called MED-6219, is an optically clear, high-durometer elastomer designed to cure at a wide range of temperatures to accommodate users’ needs. With low viscosity, it is a naturally flowable and self-leveling material.

Due to its transparent appearance, MED-6219 can be used for potting and encapsulating electronic devices or for making molded parts, according to Carpinteria, Calif.-based NuSil. Because it can be vulcanized at both high and low temperatures, it is particularly suitable for temperature-sensitive substrates or for use in environments with fluctuating temperatures.

“MED-6219 suits a wide variety of healthcare applications because of its rheology, optical clarity, and adjustable cure schedule,” said Brian Reilly, product director for NuSil’s Healthcare Materials unit.

The company sai that a Master Access File will be filed with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. FDA.

MED-6219 can be purchased in dual-cartridge syringes to be mixed in a 1:1 ratio by weight.
