Nipro Medical Corporation, a Japanese manufacturer for the healthcare and medical device industry, has invested $397.8 million to build its first North American manufacturing center of excellence in Greenville, North Carolina.

“North Carolina’s highly skilled workforce, top-notch education system, and leadership in the life sciences industry continue to attract projects to our state that make a difference in the lives of everyday North Carolinians,” said Christopher Chung, CEO of the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina (EDPNC). “This project will be Nipro’s U.S. headquarters as well as a new manufacturing facility and will enhance the long-lasting relationship between our state and Japan, building on our existing life sciences industry.”

Since 1954, Nipro Corporation Japan has been manufacturing products such as needles, infusion sets, catheters, and dialyzers, for the medical and biopharmaceutical fields. The company sells products worldwide with 27 manufacturing plants and offices in more than 56 countries. More than 29,000 people work for Nipro Corporation Japan.

The new campus in Greenville will include a medical training center for healthcare providers and a customer service center. This new facility will create 232 jobs in Pitt County. This will increase the company’s global capacity to continue expanding its footprint and offering high-end medical devices in a 550,000-square-foot advanced manufacturing facility in the North American market.

Although wages will vary depending on the position, the average salary for Nipro Medical Corporation’s new positions will be $56,147, higher than Pitt County’s average wage of $50,937. Over two and a half years, the EDPNC assisted Nipro with site selection, market-entry, project execution, and Japanese language and cultural services.
