FDA approvals, company rebranding, and acquisitions were large topics in September.
 
The FDA approved of Withings’ Sleep Rx Mat as a contactless sleep apnea diagnostic device. Sleep Rx uses a pneumatic sensor to measure respiratory rate, body movement, and continuous heart rate.
 
Senseonics also received FDA clearance for its Eversence 365 continuous glucose monitoring system. This integrated system is currently the only CGM with a removable transmitter that can be taken on and off without wasting a sensor or adding a warm-up period.
 
Olympus’ Odin Medical gained FDA 510(k) clearance for CADDIE computer-aided detection device, the first cloud-based artificial intelligence tech designed to help gastroenterologists spot suspected colorectal polyps during colonoscopies. 
 
Two companies rebranded in September. J&J simplified its name, nestling all individual monikers such as Ethicon, DePuy Synthes, Biosense Webster, Abiomed, and CERENOVUS. Henceforth, under the Johnson & Johnson MedTech brand name.
 
Terumo Corporation’s subsidiary, MircoVention, has rebranded to Terumo Neuro. The name change signifies a new chapter in the company’s evolution while maintaining its unwavering commitment to creating and commercializing groundbreaking innovations in neurovascular care.
 
Also, this past month, Stryker acquired the NICO Corporation, strengthening its neurotechnology offerings. NICO’s technologies integrate imaging and intervention to provide a safe, minimally disruptive approach to brain surgery.
