Despite the bevy of all-new beginnings, there were no surprises this past week on the MPO website.

The most popular items with readers were old standby topics like mergers and acquisitions, artificial intelligence (AI), and product approvals, recycled with new names. Hologic led the pack with word of its $350 million acquisition of Gynesonics Inc., provider of minimally invasive women’s health solutions. Based in Redwood City, Calif., Gynesonics develops and sells the Sonata System, a solution for diagnostic intrauterine imaging and transcervical treatment of certain symptomatic uterine fibroids, including those associated with heavy menstrual bleeding.

AI-related news from Spectral AI and UC-San Francisco drove significant traffic, predictably, as artificial intelligence technology continues to embed itself in healthcare. Spectral AI attracted readers by adding two new clinical trial sites to its U.S. Burn Pivotal Study—MedStar Washington Hospital Center (Washington, D.C) and the University of Utah—and enrolling a quarter of its projected patient study total. One of the largest domestic burn studies ever conducted, the trial is designed to validate the AI-driven algorithm used by the Spectral AI’s DeepView System for burn indications (DeepView AI-Burn).

UC-San Francisco researchers were star traffic drivers as well, thanks to news of their machine learning algorithm for enhancing 3T MRIs. The algorithm synthesizes 7 Tesla (7T)-like images that approximate real 7T MRIs, thus enhancing pathological tissue with more fidelity for clinical insights. The breakthrough represents a step toward evaluating clinical applications of synthetic 7T MRI models.

GE Healthcare and Bausch + Lomb produced plenty of pageviews too, through a new product launch and regulatory approval, respectively. GE HealthCare launched the new Versana Premier, which offers automation and AI-enabled productivity tools to improve workflow and clinical features designed to enhance clinical efficiency and accuracy. Bausch + Lomb, meanwhile, gained FDA approval for its enVista Envy Intraocular Lens, whose ActivSync Optic intelligent energy distribution optimizes vision in many lighting conditions.
