MPO’s Most-Read Stories This Week—June 15

Product innovation dominated MPO’s digital databank this past week.

Patents, FDA clearances and new cardiac-related treatment tools garnered the bulk of cybervisitors’ interest, as did a magazine feature exploring the drug-device combination product market.

ENDRA Life Sciences topped pageviews with the receipt of five new patents—three in Europe and two in China—for its TAEUS system thermoacoustic technology. 

Next in line was Abbott, which attracted site visitors with news of the FDA’s clearance for two new over-the-counter CGM systems based on its FreeStyle Libre continuous monitoring technology. The systems are intentionally designed to meet different needs—Lingo for consumers who want to better understand and improve their health and wellness, and Libre Rio for adults with Type 2 diabetes who do not use insulin and typically manage their diabetes through lifestyle modifications.

Philips drove significant traffic with two product announcements: The first implant of its Duo venous stent system, and the overseas introduction of its Cardiac Workstation.

The Duo venous stent system is a device to treat symptomatic venous outflow obstruction in patients with chronic venous insufficiency (CVI). The system is comprised of two stents, Duo Hybrid and Duo Extend, in various sizes. Duo Hybrid’s design combines multiple zones of differing mechanical properties into one stent while Due Extend overlaps with the Duo Hybrid to extend therapy. The two stents work together to minimize stent fracture and corrosion risk, and they also offer the option to stent in caudal veins with smaller diameters, according to Philips.

The Cardiac Workstation is a new cardiac care platform to accelerate clinical decision-making and care for cardiology patients. It leverages algorithms to access, analyze, and manage electrocardiograph (ECG) data remotely or at the point of care.
