Mobisante Introduces Tablet Version of Ultrasound System

The device has wireless capabilities.

Mobisante Inc., a Richmond, Va.-based medical imaging technology company, has released the Mobius TC1 tablet ultrasound system. Similar to an iPad or other smart tablets on the market, the system offers high-resolution point-of-care ultrasound imaging, aimed at improving the ultrasound method and reducing costs.

According to the company, the system supports quick look, triage, routine screening, and ultrasound-guided procedures. The Mobius TC1 ultrasound system is designed for emergency departments, clinics, rural and community hospitals, disaster relief organizations, and the uniformed services.

The main advantage of the system touted by Mobisante is its low cost. Also, like other tablets, the systems has the ability to connect to wireless internet.

“Devices like Mobius TC1 enable more care to be provided outside of expensive settings like hospitals into settings that are less expensive, such as clinics and other locations where the patient needs immediate care,” said Sailesh Chutani, CEO and co-founder of Mobisate. “This is key to improving access while reducing costs.”

The system enables diagnosis and treatment in trauma (FAST exam, lung, cardiac screening), abdominal pain, abdominal aortic aneurysms, and other routine screening such as bladder assessment, OB/GYN assessments, triage, and ultrasound-guided procedures. The tablet also supports endocavity probes for gynecology or prostate imaging, in addition to the already wide array of probes that cover multiple clinical applications.

The Mobius smartphone system was cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in January 2011. The tablet version is the latest iteration of the ultrasound device.
