Micro Therapeutics to Close German Plant

Irvine, CA-based Micro Therapeutics has shut down its Bochum, Germany plant in the company’s attempt to reach profitability.

With the closing of the facility, Micro Therapeutics, a maker of minimally invasive medical devices, consolidated all of its manufacturing operations into its Irvine, headquarters.

“We anticipate that the consolidation of our operations to the Irvine facility will yield benefits in terms of manufacturing costs, overhead expense structure and customer service,” said CEO Thomas C. Wilder.

In the third quarter of 2004, Micro Therapeutics reported a net loss of $15.5 million while sales were $8.2 million.
