FT-250SY improves rigidity and features a true Y-axis.

Methods Machine Tools Inc., a supplier of precision machine tools, automation and accessories, has expanded its Feeler FT-Series High Performance CNC turning centers line with the new FT-250SY. Touted as a “unique capability in its class,” the FT-250SY contains a true Y-Axis with 100 mm (+/- 50 mm) of travel, which provides increased rigidity and a more robust machining environment. Also, by offering an 8-inch sub-spindle in addition to the primary 10-inch spindle, the FT-250SY provides more capacity than competitive turning centers, the company claims. The FT-250SY features a single-piece structure with boxways, a 45-degree slant bed and robust base for better vibration dampening when turning in hard materials, including interrupted cutting. Extra rigidity from a heavy duty 12-station turret results in high metal removal rates, improved finishes, and ensures long term accuracy. For maximum integrity, finite element analysis is used to ensure a solid machine base with excellent overall structural rigidity and stability. The machine also offers good capacity with a 30 HP, 3,500 RPM 10-inch (chuck diameter) primary spindle in addition to a 20 HP, 4,500 RPM 8-inch (chuck diameter) sub-spindle. “The FT-250SY is a valuable addition to the Feeler FT Series, providing exceptional rigidity and capacity at an economical price,” said Mr. Dale Hedberg, Feeler product manager at Methods Machine Tools. The Feeler FT-250SY offers an X-Axis travel of 8.2 inches +/- 0.3 inches (210 millimeters +/- 10 millimeters), Y-Axis travel of 3.9 inches +/- 2 inches (100 millimeters +/- 50 millimeters), and a 41.3-inch (1050-millimeter) Z-Axis travel. The machine comes standard with a premium FANUC 31i-TB CNC control, the ultimate high end controller. A BMT-65 tool system contains a solid interface for tool holding. For maximum machine component longevity, a fully enclosed CE cabinet prevents dust and fumes from entering, the company noted in a news release. Feeler machines are manufactured by Fair Friend Group (FFG). Established in 1979, FFG is one of the world’s largest machine tool builders and has major manufacturing operations in Taiwan, China, Japan and the United States. Feeler CNC lathes and turning centers from Methods include the FTC-, FVT- and FT-Series. The full range of Feeler machines encompasses vertical machining centers, turning centers including vertical turning lathes and bridge/boring mills. Methods Machine Tools supplies precision machine tools, automation and accessories, and provides extensive applications engineering support, installation, parts, service and training through a network of technology centers and dealers throughout North America. The company is based in Sudbury, Mass.
