Medtronic Releases Entrust Delivery System in U.S.

Dublin, Ireland-based Medtronic plc has launched the new Entrust delivery system in the United States. Entrust is a one-handed delivery system designed for use with for Medtronic’s Everflex self-expanding peripheral stent.

“The Entrust delivery system allows me to confidently deliver the Everflex stent with control and ease, ensuring precise placement of the stent even in difficult, complex or hard to reach lesions,” said George Meier, M.D., chief of vascular surgery, University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

The Entrust delivery system deploys the Everflex stent to re-open narrowed (stenotic) regions of the superficial femoral and proximal popliteal arteries that supply blood to the legs. Narrowing of these arteries is associated with a condition known as peripheral arterial disease (PAD), where plaque builds along lining of the arteries, blocking blood flow to the legs.

“The Entrust delivery system is a great example of how industry and physicians can partner to deliver game-changing technology,” said Luke Marone, M.D., chief of cardiovascular surgery, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Passavant Hospital, and director of peripheral intervention at the school’s Heart and Vascular Institute. “The low profile, long catheter option, and one-handed, triaxial delivery system put the Entrust delivery system in a class of its own when it comes to peripheral vascular stents.”

The Entrust delivery system has a 5 F triaxial delivery system designed to provide control and precision with its 0.035 inch guidewire compatibility, longer catheter lengths, and a broad stent matrix. Its partner, the the Everflex stent, has been clinically proven to be safe and effective in treating long, complex and highly calcified lesions, Medtronic claims.

“Based on physician feedback and procedural observation, we developed an easy to use one-handed delivery system to increase the stent delivery options in our portfolio,” said Brian Verrier, vice president and general manager of peripheral vascular, a business in Medtronic’s Aortic and Peripheral Vascular division. “Both the Entrust delivery system and the Everflex stent with the pin-pull delivery system provide enhanced choice and treatment solutions for peripheral arterial disease.”
