Medtronic announced that a Minnesota district court denied its motion for summary judgment on lawsuits related to its implantable cardioverter defibrillator, the Associated Press reported.

The Minneapolis, MN-based medical device manufacturer said it will seek to appeal the decision made by Judge James Rosenbaum on the multidistrict litigation.

Medtronic officials said that a system created by Congress to regulate medical devices allows businesses to create “life-saving innovations under an umbrella of federal oversight.”

The company added the FDA has stated that its regulations should preempt or supercede state law claims.
