Medtronic Appoints Executive Vice President, Group President of Cardiology

Michael Coyle previously worked for St. Jude Medical as president of Cardiac Rhythm Management.

Medtronic Inc. has appointed Michael Coyle as executive vice president and group president of its cardiology businesses. Coyle will lead the company’s Cardiac Rhythm Disease Management (CRDM), CardioVascular and Physio-Control divisions.

Prior to joining Minneapolis, Minn.-based Medtronic, Coyle most recently provided leadership consulting services to private equity, venture capital and medical device firms.

From 2001 to 2007, he served as president of the Cardiac Rhythm Management division at St. Jude Medical in St. Paul, Minn., where he led that company’s global pacemaker, implantable cardioverter defibrillator and cardiac resynchronization therapy businesses. And from 1997 to 2001, he served as president of St. Jude’s Daig Catheter division. Prior to St. Jude, he held various leadership positions at Eli Lilly & Company.

“His deep experience in medical device therapy will enable us to build on the emerging synergies within these businesses and to accelerate their market leading performance,” said Bill Hawkins, CEO of Medtronic.

Reporting to Coyle will be Pat Mackin, senior vice president and president, CRDM; Scott Ward, senior vice president and president, CardioVascular; and Brian Webster, president, Physio-Control.
