Medherant Ltd. Appoints Head of Clinical Development

Medherant Ltd., a University of Warwick spinout company developing a novel transdermal drug delivery patch technology, is pleased to announce the appointment of Sheryl Caswell as head of clinical development. Caswell joins Medherant as the company prepares to start clinical studies with its first product, an ibuprofen patch developed using its TEPI Patch technology.

Medherant’s next-generation drug delivery platform, TEPI Patch, is designed to address many of the disadvantages of previous transdermal drug delivery patches. It will enable a wider range of drugs to be delivered through the skin, including those that are unsuitable for oral administration, and improve the user experience. Medherant is initially using the technology to develop products for pain relief, the first of which will be an ibuprofen patch. The technology will enable controlled release of drugs for up to at least 24 hours.

Medherant was founded by Professor David Haddleton and the University of Warwick (Coventry, England) to develop and commercialize transdermal drug delivery platforms. Since March 2015, Medherant has been using its expertise in bioadhesives and polymer chemistry to create a new adhesive transdermal patch to expand and advance the library of drugs that can be delivered using patches. TEPI Patch, its latest new patch technology, aims to improve upon existing patches by significantly increasing drug loading capability, efficacy and the patient user experience. It delivers a steady, controllable dose of the chosen drug as well as providing environmental and economic benefits (no solvents are involved inthe manufacture, unlike current patch technologies).
