Two promotions and a retirement are on tap for the Vermont-based contract manufacturing firm.
Arlington, Vt.-based Mack Molding, a custom plastics molder and supplier of contract manufacturing services, announced a series of management changes. Bryan Campbell, Mack North headquarters plant manager, has been named successor to Ray Burns as president of Mack Molding, Southern Division, in Inman, S.C., effective Sept. 1, 2014, Jeff Somple, president of the Northern Division of Mack Molding announced. “Bryan brings a combination of sales and operational experience to his new role, not to mention boundless energy,” said Somple. “He is as comfortable in the conference room with customers as he is in the molding room with technicians. Bryan has gained valuable experience while working in a sales/engineering capacity and, later, heading up our largest and most complex manufacturing facility in Vermont. Additionally, he brings an automotive background to the table, which is critical in terms of large‐part molding, Class A painting, and the markets served by our southern plants.” Campbell joined Mack in 2008 as a program manager, where he gained front line experience with medical OEMs. Just one year later, he took that experience to the operations side to manage the headquarters plant, which focuses on complex contract manufacturing, including medical devices. In that role, he supervised the molding, sheet metal, machining and contract manufacturing operations, and had profit-and-loss responsibility for that plant. Before joining Mack, Campbell was operations manager for Guardian Automotive in Warren, Mich., a Tier 1 automotive supplier. He had responsibility for multiple plants, including New Bern, N.C. During his eight‐year stint there, he also served as quality assurance manager and quality engineer. Campbell holds a bachelor’s in business administration from Catawba College, Salisbury, N.C., and has also completed Lean manufacturing modules by Toyota Production System Training and the University of Kentucky. Campbell will begin working this month with Burns, current president at Mack’s Southern Division, until Burns retires later this year. Burns has worked at Mack Molding for 33 years. He has been president of Mack’s Southern Division for 17 years, which includes injection molding facilities in Inman, S.C., and Statesville, N.C. “Our Southern Division has enjoyed tremendous growth under Ray’s guidance,” said president and CEO Don Kendall. “He is leaving on a very high note, with sales currently at an all‐time high. I know I speak for the entire Mack family when I say that we have greatly appreciated Ray’s enduring commitment, both to Mack and the plastics industry. While we wish him the very best in his retirement, we will certainly miss him.” In addition to presiding over the Southern Division, Burns served on the boards of directors of Mack Molding Co. and Mack Group, which includes four subsidiaries—Mack Molding, Mack Prototype, Mack Technologies and Synectic Engineering. Burns joined Mack in 1981 as an account manager at its Arlington facility. His career grew along with the company, including stints as vice president of sales, vice president and general manager of the Southern Division, and now president. Before joining Mack, he worked for Nypro for seven years in both finance and sales. In another key management move, Rich Hornby will combine the logistical skills he learned as a military officer with his medical sales/engineering background in his new role as plant manager of Mack Molding’s headquarters plant in Arlington. Formerly a program manager in the orthopedics and disposable medical devices business unit at Mack, he originally joined the company in 2011. “Rich has gained valuable experience in sales and engineering, while managing multiple complex programs and customers,” said Somple. “While in the Air Force, he earned several awards and supervised over 500 people while handling large logistics and production projects, including leading over 100 combat convoys. Rich has demonstrated confident leadership and precision organization at every step in his career, all of which will complement his natural enthusiasm and passion for excellence. It is particularly rewarding to recognize the skills and experiences he acquired through his dedicated and selfless service to our country.” Prior to Mack, Hornby was program manager for Millstone Medical Outsourcing in Fall River, Mass., where he was responsible for medical device engineering validation services, mechanical inspection, clean room and non‐sterile packaging, field inventory audits and distribution services. During his 12‐year career in the Air Force, Hornby carried out assignments in the United States, Germany and Afghanistan. He left the military with the rank of major, and continues to serve in the Air Force Reserves. A graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy, Hornby earned an MBA from the Pennsylvania State University in State College, Pa. He is also a Certified Six Sigma Green Belt from Villanova University in Villanova, Pa. Mack specializes in plastics design, prototyping, molding, sheet-metal fabrication, full-service machining and medical device manufacturing. Founded in 1920, Mack is a privately owned business that operates 11 facilities throughout the world. The company has annual sales of $300 million and employs approximately 1,800 people.
