IntriPlex Technologies Forms Medtech Outsourcing Arm Called IntriMed

New company builds on parent firm's 23 years of component-making experience.

Building on its experience manufacturing custom components data storage, semiconductor and medical device manufacturers, Santa Barbara, Calif.-based IntriPlex Technologies is expanding to provide full-service medtech industry outsourcing services.

The company’s new division, called IntriMed Technologies, will focus exclusively on delivering outsourcing solutions to the medical device manufacturing industry. The new division’s leadership claims the nascent firm will deliver on three “value pillars”—ongoing innovation, deep collaboration, and engineering and operational excellence. In conjunction with the rollout of the new medical device division, IntriMed also unveiled its Innovation Center in Oxnard, Calif., which also is where the company is headquartered.

The Innovation Center will support the company’s portfolio of services, including product design and development, rapid prototyping, advanced tooling, precision manufacturing, secondary processing and cleaning, custom metrology and final assembly.

“Medical device manufacturers are adjusting to a new normal of doing more with less,” said Larry J. Czapla, IntriMed’s president, “but, for us, this is pretty familiar ground. We’ve managed to help manufacturers in the disk drive industry save millions of dollars and stay ahead of a huge technology curve by laying the foundation for manufacturing success early on. From the outset, we work closely with the development team to create a tailored approach to design and manufacturing, and to help them achieve new levels of quality, technology and cost-effectiveness.”

Czapla said IntriMed will leverage the “design innovation and manufacturing excellence” from its parent company that has resulted in 44 product and process patents and more than 9 billion precision components.

In addition to Czapla, who has held leadership positions at General Electric’s Medical Systems Division, Philips Medical Systems, Medtronic and most recently as executive vice president and general manager for the Cardiology division at Accellent, IntriMed’s executive team comprises medtech industry vets.

Lawney Falloon is CEO; Damon Brink, Ph.D., is chief technology officer and vice president, Engineering; Larry Ellis, is chief financial officer; Andrew Lux, Ph.D., will serve as senior vice president, Operations and Manufacturing; and Howard R. Baker, is vice president, Business Development and Commercial Operations.
