Interstate Specialty Products Unveils Custom Die-Cut Foams

Interstate Specialty Products Inc. (ISP) of Sutton, Mass., has introduced custom die cut medical urethane foams to match OEM requirements for padding, sealing, energy absorption and other cushion-gasket applications.

The custom die-cut Poron urethane foams possess compression-set resistance and are resilient against constant use. The gasket seal, the company claims, holds up after extended use. The foams are available in four grades of compressibility determined by compression deflection. They range in size from 0.030 inches to 1 inch thick, with plus or minus 0.005-inch tolerance, and they come in various colors, with or without adhesive backings.

ISP uses what it calls a unique manufacturing process, by which Poron cellular urethanes can be cast to tight tolerances and in precise variations of firmness and internal strength. The material is designed to be easily die cut and fabricated to shape. Many Poron urethanes are conformable and thin for space-constrained applications.

ISP is marketing the Poron foams as ideal for orthopedic or prosthetic applications, as they have an open-cell, micro-cellular construction that breathes. The material also is touted to provide good vibration damping and impact absorption. The foams contain no plasticizers or residual chemicals, which prevents contamination. They are by nature flame resistant without the use of additives, there is little outgassing (release of gas trapped in the material) and are non-fogging. ISP also is offering Poron foams in fungal resistant versions. Poron has been tested in temperatures between 40 and 90 degrees Celsius (104 and 194 degrees Fahrenheit).
