Insulet Spreads Omnipod 5 to Four More International Markets

Insulet has released its Omnipod 5 automated insulin delivery (AID) system in Australia and revealed it will soon be offered in three additional countries.

In Australia, it’s commercially available with Dexcom G6 and G7 continuous glucose monitor (CGM) compatibility. There are plans underway, according to the company, to soon add Abbott’s FreeStyle Libre 2 Plus CGM.

Omnipod 5 will become available in Belgium in the coming weeks with FreeStyle Libre 2 Plus, G6, and G7 integrations. It will launch in Canada later this spring with G6 and G7 compatibility, and in Switzerland also later this spring with FreeStyle Libre 2, Plus, G6, and G7 sensor integrations.

Insulet recently broadened sensor integrations to include Dexcom G7 for Omnipod 5 users in the UK and the Netherlands. The company is planning to bring the automated insulin pump to Israel, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Kuwait as well, with timing to be shared in the coming months.

Earlier this year, the company rolled out Omnipod 5 in Italy, Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden.

Omnipod 5 is touted as the first wireless AID system that communicates with a CGM. It proactively corrects for glucose highs and protects against lows, automatically adjusting insulin delivery every five minutes using its SmartAdjust technology.
