HearUSA has reported a $352,873 payment to Massachusetts has resolved improper billing of the commonwealth’s Medicaid system. The West Palm Beach, FL-based hearing care company said in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) it had discovered a unit of the Helix business it bought in 2002 had improperly billed Massachusetts Medicaid. In fact, HearUSA said in the filing it discovered eight Massachusetts hearing care centers had improperly submitted claims to Medicaid for hearing aids and accessories from December 2000 through August 2002. The billings were submitted before HearUSA bought the centers, the company told the SEC. HearUSA said in its filing it voluntarily reported the problems to the Massachusetts Division of Medical Assistance. The company also said it offered to repay the commonwealth the overbilled amounts.
