German Court Upholds Edwards Patent

Decision comes from counter lawsuit filed by CoreValve, now owned by Medtronic Inc.

A court in Munich, Germany, has upheld the validity of Edwards Lifesciences Corp.’s German Andersen patent for transcatheter valve technology, according to the Irvine, Calif.-based firm.

The decision resulted from a counter lawsuit filed by CoreValve (now owned by Minneapolis, Minn.-based Medtronic Inc. in response to a patent infringement case filed by Edwards in Germany in May 2007.

“We are very pleased that Edwards’ Andersen patent has again been upheld, as it was last year in the United Kingom, said Larry L. Wood, corporate vice president of transcatheter valve replacement for Edwards.
