GE HealthCare Rolls Out CleaRecon AI-Based Reconstruction

CleaRecon DL was designed to remove streak artifacts caused by blood flow in the arteries and changes in contrast distribution during CBCT.

GE HealthCare has launched CleaRecon DL, a deep-learning powered technology that improves the quality of cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) images.

The AI-driven tool was designed to remove streak artifacts caused by blood flow in the arteries and changes in contrast distribution during CBCT acquisitions in liver, prostate, neuro, and endovascular aortic repair procedures. CleaRecon DL recently earned an FDA nod and CE mark, and will be available on the Allia platform.

CBCT is used to provide cross-sectional imaging during procedures in interventional suites. Quality can be reduced because of artifacts resulting from vessels’ pulsatility, reducing image clarity and accuracy. However, CBCT is crucial in interventional procedures because it can comprehensively visualize anatomical structures.

CleaRecon DL’s deep-learning algorithms were engineered to provide clearer, more accurate imaging. During its validation testing, a survey noted in 98% of cases, CBCT images reconstructed with CleaRecon DL were clearer than conventional CBCT images. The tech was also demonstrated to improve CBCT image interpretation confidence in 94% of cases.
